Tinkering with a field wound electric motor, Harris developed a system that a foot pedal to control direction, leaving his hands free to fish. In the subsequent years, Motorguide's contributions to trolling motor technology involve the first flat stow motors, infinitely variable speed settings, and 24-volt power in trolling motors. Motorguide's name has been synonymous with trolling motors ever since.
